Bus Stop Ambush

The greatest privelege of the middle schoolers is to join in on leading the watergun/balloon ambush at the bus stop on the last day of school, our neighborhood tradition.

Felicia's 5th Grade Graduation

Our sweet Boo is leaving elementary school behind ! This morning we attended her 5th grade ceremony, which was held at Cosby High School. This photo was taken shortly before the bus stop.

This picture of Felicia and her teacher is just so prescious to me. Her teacher is an AMAZING person who inspired Felicia so much this year. We will truly miss her daily presence in Felicia's life, but we intend to keep in touch.

The entire 5th grade sang a song at the end of the program. Felicia and her good friend Valerie were all giggles during the song. Felicia finished her school year with an award for being on the honor roll all 4 quarters !! We are so proud of her !

My last Kindergartner !

ellie's End of the Year Kindergarten party was taking place at the same time as Felicia's 5th Grade auction, so I moved between two places at the school for a few hours. Ellie's party was a classroom rotation to different stations of fun activities after they had Ci-Ci's pizza and cupcakes for lunch. Their first station was receiving paper booklets, which were their Kindergarten Autograph books and they spent 15 minutes getting their friends to sign their books.

They danced to The Freeze and Hokey Pokey and a few others before they went outside for bubbles and sno-cones ! The last rotation was carnival games.

Ellie with Mrs. Bowman. She loves her teacher ! Ellie enjoys school very much. She told me a few weeks ago that "Kindergarten is so much fun, but when you go to first grade, you have to work !"

5th Grade Bulldog Auction

The 5th grade auction is an event that they look forward to all year. Prizes are donated by parents and local businesses. The 5th graders have earned, spent and saved Bulldog Bucks all year long, given to them by their teachers for things like homework turned in, etc. Felicia had $20,00.00 to spend so I thought she would bid on one of the big ticket items, like the XBOX 360 or a digital camera, but she had a hard time deciding and was afraid to let all her money go on one item. When I arrived to watch, she still hadn't bid on anything, but with some encouragement from her teacher and I, she won something shortly thereafter.

7th Grade Awards

A few weeks ago, I received e-mails from 2 of Sam's teachers that he would be receiving awards for excellence and achievment in that subject. We were invited to the awards ceremony where he would be presented with the awards, which the kids are not told about ahead of time. We were so proud of Sam for receiving awards in Social studies and Health/PE this year !

Place your bets !

Yes, I took my kids to the horse race track ! Less than an hour away, we have a racetrack that I have never been to. When I found out about Fan Appreciation Day, that admission, programs, hot dogs, chips and drinks were all only 25 cents each--that's right, 25 CENTS, I was all in ! Steve had to work and Bethany was at a party, so I went with a friend whose husband was also working and her kids. We had fun doing something new and NOT spending a lot of money! We even had coupons to receive free T-shirts !
Ellie with good friend Isabela -- they were sweltering in the 90+ degree heat
Getting a closer look at the horses getting ready to race. We didn't know too much about how to place bets, but the kids looked through the race program with me to pick two horses to bet on in race #2. We placed each bet for only $2.00.

Coming around the track, both of our horses are in 1st and 2nd place ! #5 ends up being the winner.

Me with my big winnings ! On a 2 dollar bet, I won $11.60 ! Not bad for a novice ! I recouped all of my costs that day.

Daisy Scout Meeting

Last Friday we went to Ellie's last Daisy Girl Scout meeting to watch her receive all of the badges she's earned this year. We met at the troop leader's home and the girls all sat in a circle together. There are 12 girls in her troop. Ellie's troop sold enough cookies this year, that they were in 4th place in the district for sales, which is amazing for a first year troop.

8th Grade Dance

Bethany attended her 8th grade dance on Saturday, a semi-formal event she went to with her girlfriends. This was her final dance of her middle school years. they went to dinner at Johnny Rockets after pictures at the Woodlake Pavilion. Following the dance, they went to an after-party at a friend's house. Fun !
