Midlothian Mines Park

I am still in my "tour your own hometown" frame of mind, so today we visited Midlothian Mines Park, which is a mere block away from our YMCA and pool we go to all summer long. We have never, however, been to this park. It is mainly a park with hiking/walking trails, but it is always fun to get back to nature and see things we don't always find in our backyards. these are some of the things we found:
A natural tree swing ! A giant U-shaped branch strong enough for Felicia to sit and swing on.
a Walking stick for ellie !
fungus
ferns

interesting plants to blow at or ticle ourselves with,
a real snakeskin !!
water ! We always love to poke sticks in the water. Steve and Ellie saw a snake right by the water's edge --I'm glad I didn't !
Here are Steve and Sam trying to forge a new trail of their own to get to the top of a hill.
It was a beautiful day, we enjoyed the warm fall day and we even brought Hollister along, which he loved. It always refreshes the soul to be out among nature, even if the thought of encountering creepy crawlies keeps you a little on edge ! (That would be me).

that looks fun! We'll have to try it...although sounds like I'd better have JP there in case of snakes.
