Deck The Halls

It's that time of year again !! We usually get our christmas decorations on Thanksgiving weekend since we have a long weekend .I love getting them out and seeing all the familiar old decorations we've had for a long time. The kids enjoy helping too, so we put on the christmas music and turn it up loud to get us in the spirit !
the stockings were hung by the Chimney with care...

Ellie loves the metallic pink tree that gets put in her room every year !
Let the Holiday Joy begin !

Felicia's bucket List

I'm not exactly sure how she decided to do this, but I came across this list and Steve told me it was Felicia's list of things she wanted to do in her life. Sounds like our adventurous girl ! Steve really enjoyed the fact that she wrote "with a parachute" next to jumping out of the airplane ! I loved finding this.

Thanksgiving 2009

We feel as stuffed as the turkey after eating all the food we ate today ! We enjoyed a very nice day with my parents, who were here to celebrate the Holiday with us.Unfortunately, the reason they were here was because my aunt passed away last week and her funeral was on Tuesday up in PA. Being reminded of how precious and short life is, we feel doubly blessed to spend this Thanksgiving Holiday with loved ones.
I took my parents to the movies to see The Blindside while our 16 lb. turkey cooked in the oven under Steve's watchful eye. The movie was so good, we loved it !

At home, we feasted on all things Thanksgiving and got nice and full. For dessert a few hours later, we sang to Grandma, whose birthday is on Tuesday.

another year to count the many blessings we've been given in our lives, tough economy or not. We are blessed with so much more than wealth. Our riches are in our health and happiness and faith and love. Hollister was thankful for the turkey bone Steve gave him ! Happy Thanksgiving Everyone !

Top Chef

Bethany had an assignment in her Personal Development class at school to plan, shop for and make an entire dinner for her family.
she decided to make one of her favorite meals --fettucine Alfredo, green beans, Texas Toast and Chocolate Nut Sundae for dessert.
she did a great job, so now that we know she can cook....

Our Core Value Girl !

Last month, Felicia was awarded the Core Value Student Award at her school. Every month, a student from each class is chosen by their teacher who best demonstrates those core values which Chesterfield County Public Schools promotes and considers to be "important in the foundational development of their students". These core values are Respect, Responsibility, Honesty, and Accountability.

To celebrate Felicia's award, I let her choose a special dinner she wanted me to make and the other night, we had this yummy meal -- steak, baked potatoes, salad, crescent rolls and funny cake for dessert. (a family favorite). She also got to eat her meal on the "It's Your Special Day" plate I made this past summer. We are so proud of Felicia and her new goal is now to be named the Core Value Student of the year ! It's good to have a goal !

Dog sitting

We had our neighbor's dog here for two days while they were out of town. He (Moseley) and Hollister are buddies, they like to play when they see each other in the neighborhood.
They were pretty much constant companions when Moseley was here, running after each other and eating together, sleeping together, etc.
Their favorite activity is wrestling with each other. They do this until they are too tired.

They are so cute together ! So now even Hollister has friends sleepover!

Half Marathon

Here is my official race shirt and number for the Richmond Half Marathon I ran in yesterday.
Steve and the kids captured me coming in the last mile --I'm glad the shot is far away because I wasn't looking so hot at that point in the race !

Ahh, done with the run and with the support of my awesome family and great friends I was able to accomplish something I NEVER thought I would attempt to do in my life !
I started training for this race in August, with my friend Kristin and our "trainer", Bonnie, who was there to guide us and encourage us. As we trained I felt pretty confident that I would do well in the race. Boy did I underestimate how hard it would be ! The real kicker was when the guy in first place for the FULL marathon passed me in the last mile !!!! He ran 26.2 miles faster than I ran 13.1 !! It was pretty funny, but I finished and ran the whole race, so I am happy. Now, remind me not to sign up for another one anytime soon...

Our Family Vacation

Our trip to disney was years in the planning and was supposed to have occured last year. Even though we had to wait another year, our much anticipated adventure finally happened and it was amazing ! God blessed us with great weather, great health and great spirits to enjoy ourselves! We met my parents there and stayed with them at the resort in adjoining rooms. We planned 5 days in the parks, doing each of the 4 parks once and one additional day to visit the park we didn't get everything done at the first time !

Our first park day was in Hollywood Studios. We did just about everything in the park, minus the Tower of Terror, which none of us wanted to do. Felicia got her Poppy to ride Areosmaith's Rockin' Roller coaster, which I had to ride with her two more times that evening ! We saw Beauty and The Beast on stage and the stunt show, Indiana Jones, etc. Hollywood studios has a lot of shows, so it's tricky to see everything based on what time each thing starts. Thank goodness this park was open for extra hours in the evening so we could get it all in ! This park was the three older kids favorite park. Bethany and Sam were able to take a Disney animation drawing class here that was very cool.

Mickey in Fantasmic at Hollywood Studios
We tried to get back to the park in time for the last American Idol show of the day and missed it by minutes. They did have a large screen outside the studio playing the show and we watched for a few minutes before heading to the Fantasmic show.

Taking a ride on It's a Small World , another Disney favorite, at our day in The Magic Kingdom.
ellie loved getting all the characters autographs.

The Magic Kingdom was open until midnight for Disney resort guests so we went in the morning when it opened, left in the afternoon to swim and go for dinner, then returned later to take advantage of the extra magic hours. The kids were finally able to get on the teacup ride without waiting in a long line. Felicia rode by herself because she just spun hers around and around and around!

The Ohana dinner at The Polynesian resort was a hit with everyone. It features an all you can eat family style feast where all the food is brought to your table. There was steak, pork, chicken, shrimp, salad, noodles, etc. The meat is cooked on an open fire in the middle of the restaurant. Also, different children's games are featured about every 30 minutes. felicia and Ellie participated in coconut races and the limbo.

The safari, the Lion Kin Show and Everest (the newest roller coaster) seemed to be the favorite attractions at Animal Kingdom. Ellie also had a great time at Dino-Land in this park.
On the day we visited The Animal Kingdom (Nov. 3rd) it was our wedding anniversary of 19 years. We were given pins that said It's our Anniversary to wear.
We attended Cinderella's Royal Dinner at The Grand Floridian one evening. cinderella, Prince Charming, The stepmother and stepsisters were all there. Ellie even got to dance a silly dance with one of the stepsisters.
The stepsisters (this was Drizella) were in true character and the kids thought they were so funny.
"some day my prince will come.." Ellie was almost more excited meeting Prince charming than Cinderella !
The Princess Storybook Breakfast was amazing. We had delicious food and every princess came right to your table for autographs and pictures. We ate at the castle in Norway (in Epcot) and it was so good and filling that we didn't eat lunch !
Posing with Ariel whom they claimed was their favorite princess after meeting them all.
When we went to Epcot, we all enjoyed Soarin' so much we had to go back and ride it again !
Bethany and Felicia and Sam (riding solo in another car) insisted on riding this mini coaster several times--Goofy's Barnstormer was one of their favorite rides.
By the last park day, everyone was easily tired out, feet hurt, legs hurt. Here we took respite on the train ride to get us across the park quicker.

Waving goodbye to the happiest place on earth ! It's back to reality for us !
